“Take Pride In How Far You Have Come,
And Have Faith In How Far You Can Go.”
Truer words have never been written, or spoken.
To embrace the challenges, overcome them, and move forward enlightened with your efforts is an overwhelming emotion. It is no coincidence that these obstacle races and events have blasted off into the mainstream.
They are empowering.
They are enlightening.
They are awakening.
You can test yourself among a myriad of skill and fitness, physical and cerebral movements, toward a better, fitter, stronger, more intelligent you.
I will never forget my first obstacle based event. I was 15, Sophmore year of high school. I was part of a youth leadership/betterment group and we took our chances against an outward bound course on an island off of Boston, Massachusetts.
I remember helping everyone, being a bridge for others or a cargo net-of-self to help my peers over walls and cross traverses. I remember feeling powerful within. I remember the moment of feeling Alpha. I remember the pride. I remember sitting on the steps of our city stoop after school that day and not being able to contain myself about it to my mother. Rambling and rambling as cars drove past, myself shirtless, scratches and scars, the sun still radiating heat off the pavement city street.
That feeling fortunately came back to me in 2009 at a little unknown event aiding my friend Mike in the Peak Races summer Death Race in Pittsfield, Vermont. There I met Andy and Joe. There I rediscovered something I loved to belong to.
Since that day in Vermont there has been no looking back.
I’ve entered dozens of events, ranked high in the Reebok Spartan Elite Series, been having fun with other courses like Metro Dash and REI Muddy Buddy. My girlfriend Alicia and I even snagged a first place finish in Atlanta/Conyers, Georgia as partners in crime, “Team Thunder-buddies For Life” at a Muddy Buddy.
All in all having good fun with family, friends, clients and anyone else I can share the experience with and help along the finish line. And sometimes, I’ve been helped by these same folk.
That is the greatest thing about these events. They bring people together. Unlike running, or a triathlon there is a real sense of family and help with one another. Everyone is embracing the suck together, therefore, everyone helps one another move through the suck.
And there may not be one true way to train for these events, as they are ever changing, but there is absolutely a way to strengthen yourself to accept and conquer the challenges these events pose.
Fortunately, I’ve been through and experienced the suck, some of the worst (Winter, Summer, Mexico, Team) Death Races, ultra marathons, marathons, and although I may not have finished all of my goals, I DNF’d far beyond what most would endure, and I attribute that to my training style and methods within the walls of 32 Riverside Drive, Pembroke, Massachusetts. Of course some of our training also takes place on hills and mountains, trails and streets, beaches and playgrounds, but the majority takes place at 32 Riverside.
If you’ve been playing with these events, and are ready to take it to the next level, improve your time, improve your ability to handle the pain, improve your ability to navigate the course like you belong on it, then I would love to help you bridge to the other side,
Interested athletes/racers/trainees need only send an email to rob@rbfit.com
From there we can work together to get your body in the best shape possible to crush these events, head on, and find a little more about yourself, than you already know…
I know I continually find the better version of myself out there in the earth, wind and mist.
Please advise, nothing in life “worth attaining” is simple. It takes work. Hard work, And I dig the brilliant minutes of it.
Adam Loses 65 Pounds within Months
Adam happens to be one of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever had the fortunate opportunity to personal train. His results are nothing short of staggering.
Adam ditched any excuse to fully commit himself to accomplishing his goal!
He trains at both 5:45 am (before his children and wife awake) at the studio, and again after a long day at the office (sometimes in his neighborhood, others while running Myles Standish Monument hill with all 3 of his children in tow).
A man who is a bit of a foodie and wine enthusiast (such as myself), he stuck to his caloric needs as comfortably as could, and reaped the rewards of his consistency.
But this is the mark of the man Adam is.
He’s consistent in life.
Adam engages fully into all elements and passions: family, career, fun, past-times and fitness.
And he has absolutely inspired me to train not only smarter but harder.
He’s simply an inspiring individual to be around and listen to.
I am very proud to have gained Adam as a friend over the course of the last 6 months working together.
We’ve hiked Mount Washington together, competed in Vermont at the World Championship Spartan Ultra/Beast, played at the beach with family and are preparing to run a marathon together (Adam’s first).
If I could fill my hours with the ideal trainees, they would all be reflective of Adam’s dedication and intensity. Much like another Adam who trains at our studio when he’s home from Florida.
Something in a name perhaps, but none the less, intrinsic, I’m a fortunate person to have mornings begin with the motivation and good-heartedness that Adam brings to his sessions.
Nothing like waking up to laughter and intensity each morning before the sun rises.
ADAM’s WORDS (testimonial):
When I was finally ready to get off the couch I am fortunate that I found Belléy Fitness.
In High School and College I was very active with many organized sport teams. However, like many former high school and college athletes, I was very unsuccessful at maintaining any sort of regular diet and exercise program in the years following organized sports and I had fallen into some unhealthy habits.
As a father of three young kids and a business owner, I convinced myself that I just did not have the time to take care of myself. I didn’t even notice, or was willing to admit to myself, that my weight was spiraling out of control. When I could no longer squeeze into any of my cloths and was again forced to buy the next round of bigger cloths, I knew it was finally time to make a real change.
I decided to commit to living a healthier lifestyle and to start exercising again. I called Rob to learn about semi-private classes. I’ll admit that I was initially concerned about the added cost of the semi-private training. Like most people in the world, I was currently paying for a monthly gym pass that I never went to and finally admitted to myself that I could not do this on my own.
Energetic, encouraging, creative, and professional are the words that immediately come to mind to describe Rob as a trainer. His encouragement took on various forms, such as his always enthusiastic greetings, the genuine interest he showed in me as a person, and most importantly, the way in which he would guide me through his well-designed workouts.
In addition to encouraging me while in the studio, Rob helped me design a healthy diet and a workout routine at home. He pushed me far beyond where I thought I could be at 36 years old and I am by far in the best shape of my life! In less than 7 months I have lost a total of 65 pound and have completed numerous 5K’s, one sprint triathlon, one half marathon, two mud runs, the hellish 14 mile Spartan Beast in Vermont, and I will be running in my first full Marathon with Rob in a few weeks.
PS. In regards to my initial concerns about the added expense, I am spending far more money on my new wardrobe as shrunk from 258 pounds down to 193 pounds. The money that I spend on my Semi-Private Training is the best investment that I have ever made in myself!
I wanted to prepare for my varsity sport
“Spartan Athlete is my favorite place to work out! Rob Belley helped me get ready for my varsity soccer tryouts and season this year where I was voted most improved. The flexible scheduling, comfortable work out space and nice people made exercising fun instead of work. I strongly recommend Spartan Athlete for high school athletes who are trying to improve their performance.” –
Nicole McHugh, varsity soccer player at Austin Prep.
I call this studio a second home
“I found Rob at Spartan Athlete about 8 months ago and can now call his studio a second home. Rob trains me specific to my needs and goals, and I have been in the best shape of my life since meeting him. I needed to get into peak condition for Army ROTC at the University of Miami and as a result I am one of the fittest people in 130 member Southern Strike Battalion. I have made personal bests on my squat, clean, dead lift, bench press, run time, and my flexibility is much better since training with Rob. Tire flips, squats, sled pulls, he does it all and is truly concerned with my success. He pushes me past my limits and is also an amazing friend. Everyone who meets Rob gravitates towards his warm personality and finds his studio to be a great place to escape from the daily grind and sweat, chin-up, laugh, and live the dream.” – Adam O’Reilly (Plymouth) wrestler,x-country, top 1% obstacle event racer, Army ROTC, University of Miami (High School: Tabor Academy)
I wanted a group workout not a social hour
I’ve tried several programs before. I liked the Belley Bootcamps because they were like nothing I’ve ever done before. Fun yet challenging.
I’ve worked with trainers in the gym but they were never focused on me. The results I wanted were not happening with the machines. Working with Rob has helped me to not only get fit but commit to a new healthy lifestyle. Thanks Rob!

I wanted to be a better college athlete
Working with Rob, at Belley Fitness has helped me on my way to becoming a college athlete.
He’s helped me physically prepare for competing at the college level.
In addition, he has mentally influenced me to have a positive outlook upon future seasons in athletics.
This has been a valuable experience for me and towards my hockey performance.

I wanted to become a better football player
Here’s your 2 minute testimonial.
My son John started with Rob last December. His goal: gain body weight and become stronger. His weight was about 180 lbs and his bench was 160 lbs. Working with John during the winter, spring, and summer, John went to football camp at 210 lbs and attained a 225 lbs bench. It’s my opinion it was because of Rob Belley. I look forward to John continuing with Rob at the end of football.
Respectfully submitted,
John Jakkobowski
Robert Belley Fitness was exactly what I needed
Robert Belley Fitness was exactly what I needed.
I made a decision last February that I was going to get back in shape after devoting my time over the last six plus years to my family and career.
I met Rob through a neighbor that hired him for personal training. Her results were amazing, so I knew he was the real deal.
In April it was suggested to us to try and start a boot camp with all our neighbors. We never looked back. From the first session, we were hooked.
Since that time I have lost a whole clothing size, become more toned and…more importantly, I actually look forward to working out now. I could not have done it without the support of Rob… willing to go the extra mile for you and just all around nice. Thank you for laying the groundwork for me and my family for a lifetime of fitness!!!!
